Ministry 2000-2016

The Comunidade Batista (Baptist Community) held its first service on March 31, 2002. In June 2008, we joined with our sister church plant to become the Comunidade Batista Vida Nova (New Life Baptist Community).

This work started as the first church plant of Tim and Andrea Blazer and colleagues, Dave and Valerie Smallman.  Joining with ABWE's other church plant in 2008, God gave us another family of colleagues for 2 short years, Bill and Sue Spoelhof, who returned to the States for retirement in 2011.

In February 2016, the church voted to extend an invitation to Artur Coelho as its first full-time national pastor.  Artur officially accepted this invitation the following week. He and his wife Alline, along with their son, Davi, moved to Bauru in April, and in May the church celebrated his installation service.

In the beginning of June, the church held a goodbye service for the Blazer family, and we officially handed over all responsibilities to the church leadership, under the direction of Pr. Artur. We then returned to the U.S. for a 1 year furlough.
